Mr. Jafar Baraka

Jafar Baraka is a transformational school leader with more than 28 years of experience in teaching and educational administration. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University at Buffalo and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from The George Washington University. Mr. Baraka relocated to Richmond, Virginia in 1997, where he began his career in education as a Teacher Aide.

As Principal of Southampton High School, Mr. Baraka leads schoolwide efforts to strengthen academic excellence, foster student engagement, and cultivate a culture that prepares all learners for success in college, careers, and life beyond graduation. Under his leadership, Southampton High School was recognized as a Fully Accredited “Distinguished School” for the 2025–2026 school year, reflecting sustained growth in student achievement, improved instructional practices, and a strong commitment to continuous improvement.

Mr. Baraka is deeply committed to data-driven decision making, equitable access to high-quality instruction, and strong partnerships with students, families, staff, and the community to ensure every learner thrives in a safe, respectful, and high-expectations learning environment.
